The Hierophant and the Eight of Pentacles:

It looks like a more conventional month for you, dear Aries. You are either focused on your earnings or you "ought" to be. The spotlight is on your boss and your career, both of which are overwhelming—taking up too much of your energy in your mind. Does your boss take up all the oxygen? Your path through this month is to be strategic. Learn what you can from this job. Prepare an exit strategy if you need one, and even if it seems unlikely as you don't have to act on the exit strategy, just to have a fallback plan.

Death and the Ten of Swords:

Are you feeling alone this month, Taurus? Your partner seems to be missing. S/he could be away, or just so preoccupied with other matters that you feel single. You are hearing good money news, as “money’s talking.” Your health is great, maybe so much so that you may overdo things this month. Taurus can self-indulge, and remember that too much will inevitably show up in your health numbers. This is the month for a low public profile. Some aspect of your life has reached “the end of the road.”

The Hanged Man and the King of Wands:

Dear Gemini, your energy this month is focused on your vision regarding a business venture or investment that has to do with health care or drugs. Since marijuana is now legal in a number of states, lots of investment opportunities are arising. Your partner is and has been uncharacteristically serious. Is your partner finishing up a course of study or an internship? It will not take much longer, hold on! Friends are your saving grace this month. Let yourself absorb the love from friends and extended family. This is your month to be more passive and let others initiate things in your world.

The Hanged Man and the Page of Swords:

Travel on a cruise or to the beach this month, dear Cancer. Water is always good for your health on every level—physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. You may have some home improvement done while you are away, saving you the inconveniences of the project. There are some matters you need to keep an eye on; any joint accounts and any credit cards. There is some good stuff under wraps. Are you keeping an important secret? Allow your mind to drift and daydream. Also, follow your curiosities. This may lead to important future developments.

The Star and the Page of Pentacles:

Dear Leo, you have an old relationship that you are feeling sentimental about. Stop! That relationship is bad for you. Do not return to that relationship. You already know why. This is a month to be sure to get all your medical needs attended to. Have you been putting off seeing a doctor about something? See your doctor this month. It is a fantastic month for making career plans and choices. If you need publicity, this month is good, as you will hit the right note with your target audience. Go to your neighborhood party this year. I know you are usually more upscale, but this year will be fun and could lead to good outcomes.

The Fool and the Queen of Cups:

Virgo, there may be a situation that requires you to suddenly respond to a female relative who is in trouble. This may require you to become financially responsible for something or someone, or, perhaps, an estate. Your partner is dreamier and spacier than normal. A deeply mystical frame of mind has captured your partner and s/he seems far more out of reality than the one you live in, Virgo. Philosophers would argue about which is the “real” reality, so don’t condemn your partner, give them some slack. You’ve got patriotic friends who want to celebrate this month. Someone young moving away or starting something new? Help make the send-off special, so that they know that home will be waiting for them.

The Sun and the Seven of Wands:

Dear Libra, this month is great for your reputation and fame. All eyes are on you! You have lots of energy to interact with the public this month. In the meantime, there is a serious issue with a sibling. Your partner is, as always, very active as well. And so, too, is your social life quite active this month, especially anything involving youth. Will you be holding a pool party? All this energy and public exposure are more than usual for the always decorous, proper, and tasteful Libra. What everyone else wants may be more than you would like. Relax, most likely things will calm down next month.

Moon and the Ten of Wands:

This is a good month for art therapy with you as the healer or the healee. This can be official therapy or just your own attempt at art therapy. You are in the right frame of mind to benefit a great deal from allowing your inner demons out. You've managed to work within a budget, even though it was difficult at first. The good news? Next year income should increase. With lots of outdoor activity during the summertime, you might be tempted to overdo things and have an accident. Be aware of this tendency at the present time, and be careful. Your communication skills at work have never been better. Say what needs saying. Public relations efforts will work out well.

Temperance and the Ten of Pentacles:

Time to celebrate the hard work you have done for the last couple of years. Your health, body, and fitness are great due to your hard work. Now is this the time for a hot fudge sundae? It's okay to have one, but you cannot change your good health habits and keep your health, capiche? Big money is possible, especially if it involves joint ventures. Oh, back to health, you might want to use some technology to keep yourself adhering to healthy habits: there are various watch-like devices as well as stand alone apps that might be helpful.

Temperance and the Four of Pentacles:

Dear Capricorn, this is the month to listen to any dream warnings. Something is going on that your subconscious is aware of but your waking self is still oblivious. Enjoy the present, but be prepared for hard times—not that they are inevitable, but you definitely need a fallback plan. You can have fun and sharpen your mind through strategy games this month. Stay at home base. Travel is not for you this month. Even though your partner is raring to go somewhere.

The Tower and the King of Pentacles:

A health issue comes up out of the blue. Or, perhaps it is something you have been ignoring. You have a need for regular exercise, especially this month, as you may have energy blocks in your body, and lots of angry feelings in your emotional field. The best way to work this out is with plenty of exercise—something safe with proper hydration and mindful of the heat. The Tower is a card indicating something being destroyed to make way for something better. This could apply to a home renovation, or a health issue, or have to do with someone you employ who is leaving. Although it will mean some rearrangements on your part, the end result is something you will be happier about. You have powerful help behind the scenes. Is it time for you to have a new smart appliance? Some new technology to help out at home? The stars say, “Yes!”

The Fool and the Five of Pentacles:

Dear Pisces, this month has your personal income disrupted. It could be in a good way. Remember that “A fool and his money are soon parted.” And, “Easy come, easy go.” Help in many things, including money management, arrives from a savvy sibling or neighbor. That is if you allow someone who is smart about these things to help you. Meanwhile, in your social life, you are rubbing elbows with the VIPs. How did you manage that? Perhaps you can pick up some hints about life, whether they are positive examples or negative ones. Exposure to a different and more affluent group will be educational for you. Needless to say, July is not the month for a vacation—unless it is a working vacation.

Tower & Page of Swords:

Did you have some unexpected calamity last month? A big tax bill? This whole year, Aries, is one of you having to be flexible in the face of seemingly external events. Usually you are the initiator of life events, but this year, and especially May and June, you are having to cope with “earthquakes” in your life. Keep more funds in reserve in case you need them after payday. Be financially prepared for some bad and/or expensive news. It’s hard not to be in the driver’s seat.

Strength & Two of Swords:

The Taurus gift is equanimity and patience. These cards reflect that as well. Much as you might like to be enjoying May flowers, it looks like family matters and housing are issues of the month. We hope it will be positive family and house matters, but it may not be. Both your family and house are wanting attention. Could you be sprucing up things for an upcoming family celebration? Making you too busy to enjoy the beauties of everyday life? This may focus you for most of the month, with the pressure easing by month’s end.

Hanged Man & King of Pentacles:

Remember any lessons you learned in April, dear Gemini. You are being pressured by friends, possibly church or pagan friends, to work in ways that are foreign to you. Usually you flit about in a seemingly scattered fashion and are able to accomplish a lot without people understanding you. Now they want to make you work in a certain way and that is trying your patience. Hey, you are just not like the regular folks. You see and respond and adapt readily. This month, though, you are having to be patient, thorough, and slow. The pressure eases up by the end of May.

Chariot & Two of Pentacles:

Psychologically, you are being called to a higher level of integration. What is the highest vibration for Cancer? How can you express that? In the meantime… some wear and tear, or perhaps some event, has caused a need for a new vehicle or home improvements or both. The funds are available. Be sure you are in total agreement on the particulars, as you may be heavily “influenced” by a family member or a salesperson. Avoid the pressure by setting your conditions first and by allowing yourself alone time to revise them after preliminary negotiations. Wait until after the 12th to sign the contract.

The Magician & Queen of Cups:

Everything’s coming up roses. You have plenty of energy this month and a keen intuition. Your insights are exactly on target. Avoid committing personal funds until the last week of the month, as the first three weeks are financially impaired in some way—some way probably out of your control. You are in tune with the cosmos and able to see ahead. Listen to your inner voice! Matters of love and affection are most positive.

The Wheel of Fortune & Knight of Swords:

This could be your month for a winning lottery ticket, though please don’t bet your rent money. While Mercury retrograde for the beginning couple of weeks this month is frequently burdensome for Virgos, this month looks not-so-bad. You have the initiative. You have Fortuna on your side. The time is right after May 22nd. Home improvement seems to be a theme for you this month as well. Luck is on your side.

The Fool & Seven of Cups:

Your significant other, Libra, is becoming famous. Since you thrive on partnership, this is not that much of an adjustment for you. However some family members are not as thrilled. Is your SO controversial? It looks so. You are a natural charmer, able to spin just about anything. You will be fine with this turn of events. Be mindful of your health and remember regular habits, food, sleep and exercise, allow you to be as sociable as you want to be. When you neglect yourself, you have to stay home—no fun.

Death & Six of Cups:

Big changes for you, Scorpio, this month. You have the potential to make big positive strides in mind and spirit. This could come about from deaths and funerals, as “memories” is also a key theme of the month. You have the opportunity to finalize old emotional business. Be as complete in your personal relationships as you can be. Take the time for compliments and thanks while you still have the other person on the Earth plane.

Justice & Ace of Swords:

Okay, my Sagittarius friend, it looks like you are initiating a lawsuit or other legal matter. It will likely be fall before you can expect a good outcome on this. Usually Sagittarians are the most optimistic and devil-may-care people, yet the last year has brought some constrictions. Are you studying? Learning outside or inside the classroom? You are a perpetual student, but this course has been rough. This month is clearly about following the rules, dotting all your i’s, and crossing all your t’s. Do so and you will be happier at the end of the month. Try to slide by and the Universe is not offering any freebies.

Hanging Man & Two of Wands:

Hard working Capricorn, you are going to earn rewards this year. However this month is going to be slow as you are just getting started on the project, or this phase of the project. You can count on yourself to be organized and to keep your eyes on the prize. You may be impatient with the slow start, but recall that when you get something going it seems to gain momentum along the way. Some of your attention will be on siblings and cousins who are not as achievement-oriented as you are. Be prepared to be patient as they will not live up to your high standards—almost no one can.

The High Priestess & King of Wands:

Your normal intuition is enhanced this month, Aquarius. You are more reserved than usual, yet pursuing your goals with strategy and consistency. Now is the time to work on or initiate any long term projects. Probably more than usual, your critics may complain about you being quiet and remote. You are rarely touchy-feely. This month is a particularly mentally focused time period. Don’t assume a new career or volunteer position until July, unless you intend it to be temporary. Check-in with your neighbors, siblings and cousins. Progress will come.

The Sun & Eight of Wands:

Looks like a busy month for you, Pisces, and a positive one. It is time for a promotion or some publicity. Travel is featured. Are you traveling on a mission of mercy? Your social conscience is well developed and you are in the spotlight now. You have the opportunity to help others and to raise awareness about suffering. This could be the earth’s suffering, animals suffering or people suffering. Let yourself shine and be the compassionate leader that you can be.

Modern and Ancient tribes and cultures of Europe, India, Asia, Africa, people in the northern and Southern Hemispheres use and have used the bundling and burning of plants as an innately human artistic, spiritual, and healing expression. They are so important for creating and clearing space. If you are drawn to creating your own is a wonderfully rewarding ritual in itself

Things You'll Need

Cotton String in any colour you are drawn to use

Garden clippers

White Sage and other herbs & flowers you wish to include (do research, some plants shouldn't be burnt)

Cut off pieces of the plants in lengths about a hand long. For more leafy plants, you can make the pieces shorter, but you may want to use a longer piece for a plant that has fewer leaves.

Cut a length of string about five feet long. Put several branches together so that the cut ends are all together, and the leafy ends are all together.

Take 4-6 sprigs and place them together, smoothing the leaves to lay down toward the stem. Take three feet (one outstretched arms length) of thread.

Find the middle of the thread, wrap a few times around the bottoms of the stems.

Wind the string tightly around the stems of the bundle, leaving two inches of loose string where you began.

Wrap the remaining length of string around the base of the branches several times to secure it. Then, gradually, work your way along the length of branches until you reach the leafy end. Return the string back up to the stems, creating a bit of a criss-cross pattern. You'll want to wind the string tightly enough that nothing gets loose, but not so tight that it cuts off pieces of the plants.

When you get back to the stems, tie the remainder of the string to the 2" loose piece you left at the beginning. Trim off any excess pieces so that the ends of your smudge stick are even.

Place the bundle outside or hang it up for drying. Depending on what type of herb you used, and how humid your weather is, it may take a couple of days or as much as a week to dry out. When your sticks are dry, you can burn them in ritual for smudging by lighting one end.

How to smudge- -

Light the end of your wand. After it is ignited for about 10-15 seconds, blow out the flame and direct the smoke around your body and/or the area you wish to "purify". Some prefer putting the smoking wand in a fireproof container such as an Abalone bowl or a Clay bowl and directing the smoke with your hand or a smudge feather.

Or alternativly buy one of our seasonal white sage smudge stickers HERE

Full Seed Moon of April

Waxing moon period: 28/03/2017 to 09/04/2017

Waxing first quarter moon: 03/04/2017

Full Seed Moon: 10/04/2017

Waning moon period: 11/04/2017 to 25/04/2017

Waning last quarter moon: 19/4/2017

New Moon: 26/04/2017

April is a time of planting the seeds of your projects now that you have prioritized them back in March. The unpredictable weather of March is gentling into a more consistent warmth and mild temperatures. Spring is flowing toward early summer. You might still have to exercise caution to shelter tender young seedlings (especially if those seedlings are not metaphorical but are actual plant seedlings), but otherwise the time has come to plant those seeds and nurture your projects as they germinate by the light of the Seed Moon.

Your altar

Strip down last month’s altar of its pastel over-cloths until you have reduced it to its large green under-cloth. This month is simplicity itself compared to last month when you were sorting out your priorities. Now we are going to plant the seeds of your chosen projects and grow them – period. To keep your focus strong and simple, go easy on the decorations. Perhaps add a small pot of potting soil with a drainage hole and saucer, and plant it with seeds to symbolize your projects. (You can plant anything you want, but radish seeds sprout faster than anything at three weeks; throughout the month, you can tend to the pot of seedlings on your altar, or you can immediately relocate it after your Waxing Moon and Full Moon activities.) Another good decoration is a pot of blooming yellow daffodils or red tulips.

Waxing Moon Magic

From the night after the last new moon to the full Seed Moon:

Concentrate on increasing your projects’ strength, vigor, and growth. Raise healing energy through chanting and candle magic with green candles and herbal oils, and release the energy into your projects. Visualize your projects maturing through the year. Know your limits! This is very intensive work and probably should be done for no more than one to three at most main projects, which you would have prioritized last month. Before you work witchcraft, identify and perform all the necessary steps to jump-start your projects upon the physical plane (for example, put in job applications and schedule interviews if you want a better job) so that your spells will have a strong foundation in your everyday life from which to launch into the universe.

Full Moon Magic

On the night of the full Seed Moon, you could continue the type of spell that you have been doing all through the Waxing Moon period – raising healing energy to strengthen and nurture your projects – and so harness the extra power of the full moon. This is good when you have more than one project to launch this year.

Alternatively, you could downshift to a more contemplative ritual in which you focus upon the patron god or goddess of your particular project (for example, Celtic goddess Brigit for metal workers or Norse goddess Frigge for motherhood or Norse god Odin for magic working). Ask for their blessings and open your mind to any advice they may have. This is good when you have just one main project to launch this year.

Waning Moon Magic

From the night after the full Seed Moon to the next new moon:

Think of this phase as vigorous weed-killing of any metaphorical weeds such as fear, negative self-talk, or laziness that might smother the spark of light within the seeds of your projects. Work banishing magic and enlist the help of your patron god and goddess to deliver your from fear and confusion. Identify any practical obstacles to your projects within the physical world (such as excess weight or too much clutter) and take steps to vanquish them (start a nutrition and exercise program and donate a carload of your junk to a charity shop).

Again, know your limits. The magic you work during the month of the Seed Moon is very physically and emotionally intense. This month involves a huge revving up of energy as compared to the slower months that preceded it. Instead of working magic all through the month, consider just four ceremonies: new moon, first quarter, full moon, and last quarter.

Beltane is a time for fun, mythology, food, and happy indulgence. It is great to spend the day in the sun with those you admire. Group outings and coven experiences are wonderful this time of year.

Groups and covens are not the only ones allowed to have all the fun. I have been a solitary for MANY years and I have yet to miss a Beltane celebration. Why should I? There are so many fun and inexpensive things to do. With or without a coven or group, you can have a blast.

The best part of going at it alone is, you don’t have to clear or coordinate your plans with anyone! Why? You call the shots! There are no misunderstandings about when and where to meet. You don’t have to hear anyone complain about this that, and any other issue than may pop up. The only winer in the group is you, so if you can tolerate yourself you’re in business. *chuckle*

In this post I will take you through some of my favorite solitary Beltane activities. Many of these activities are flexible so you can include friends and family if you choose. So here we go!

1. Host a Solitary Beltane Tea.

Solitary TeaWe all know Beltane is the counter to Samhain where the veil once again thins and we are able to commune and communicate with our ancestors and departed loved ones. The practice of having a silent Dumb Supper during Samhain is very common. Why not extend that tradition to Beltane with its own twist?

Serve your tea as you would your Dumb Supper, just make it more colorful with spring flowers and your favorite tea foods and treats. This activity is flexible, invite others to join you if you like. Make sure you take time to fully connect and honor your ancestors and departed loved ones. Check out our tea ritual from Imbolc for ideas

2. Stoke a “Bale” Fire.

Beltaine BonfireTo me Beltane is just not Beltane without Bon or Bale Fire. Don’t worry if you don’t have a large outdoor place to do this. You can use candles, your fireplace, or a small fire pit; whatever you have available will do. I usually use our outdoor fire pit, which is fairly small and fits nicely on our deck. Your fire can be big or small, either will do.

OH! Don’t forget to take the opportunity to do some fire gazing…

3. Make a Beltane Craft

Beltane WrreathCrafts are a favorite in my home because I have a young heathen to entertain. Traditionally, I like to make head/hair garlands, and wreaths. The wreath is for the front door and the head garland I use for some Beltane Magick. Find a craft you have been itching to create and do it!

Making Beltane Special

It does not matter if you have a group to celebrate with or not. Beltane can be an enriching celebration when you get creative and try something new. Sometimes the best spiritual experiences are the ones we discover alone. There is no disruption, or distraction. It is only you and your ability to experience the energy of the moment.
